The world is a busy place and it is easy to get caught up in the daily grind, get lost thinking about the past or making plans for the future. How often do you press pause, recognize and appreciate the little things that make life so wonderful? Learning to enjoy the little things is an important step in making your dreams come true. Here are some simple tips for embracing the beauty in the little things, being more present and living in the moment.

 

Simple ways to enjoy daily life  

Slow down. 

While you run from hot to hot and are always on, stressed that your long to do list is not getting finished life passes you by. Our days are easily filled with endless tasks, but if we never stop and pay attention to the little things in our lives, we can miss what really matters. Every once in a while, take time to look around you and notice what you are grateful for. Is it the smell of coffee in the morning? The walk with your dog in the woods? Or do you enjoy being with your partner, friends and family. Remember that each day is unique and does not come back. Take time to pause and enjoy daily moments that make you happy - no matter how small they may seem at times. 

 

Be grateful 

The key to a happy and fulfilled life is gratitude. Appreciating what you have and letting go of what you don't have or what is to come. A good way to practice gratitude is to keep a journal in which you write daily three things you are grateful for. Research shows that people who record their daily feelings of gratitude and blessings experience a more positive mood and have a more optimistic outlook on their lives. Take 10 or 15 minutes before bed to write down. You will soon find that your appreciation for the little things in your life increases. 

 

Focus on your feelings 

Another way to practice living in the now is to simply take time to focus on your feelings and senses. What is happening around you? What are three things you can see, three things you can smell, feel or hear? When you are more aware of what your senses perceive, it soon becomes easier to perceive all the beautiful things around you. The things you might have missed before.

Take time for yourself 

To enjoy the little things, it is important to take time for yourself. Make time for a self-care routine that makes you happy and peaceful. Whether this is your daily skincare, a walk in nature or simply a cup of hot coffee in the morning. Focus on the things that make you happy, hobbies that inspire and encourage you. By taking good care of yourself and focusing on the things you love you create a life full of happiness and beautiful little moments.
